With many successful endurance athletes now using heart rate
based training, lactate threshold and VO2 max testing has become increasingly important. More precise training heart rates can be determined
based on physiology rather than generalized equations, and progress can be objectively
monitored over time. ELITE Health and
Wellness conducts endurance athlete testing in the Philadelphia area.
With over a decade of experience testing athletes of all
abilities in a wide variety of disciplines, exercise physiologist Daniel Moser, PhD,
offers athletes in this region an opportunity to experience state of the art testing and
maximize their training efforts. Dr. Moser
has worked with recreational as well as professional triathletes, marathoners, cyclists,
in-line skaters, hockey players, rowers, and basketball players as well as coaches and
possesses a keen understanding of the many different testing and training principals
currently in use. Dr. Moser is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
The most popular tests for endurance athletes are the
incremental blood lactate test and the steady state incremental peak power output/VO2 max
test. Additionally, at Elite we commonly offer
incremental ventilatory threshold/VO2 max test. The
thresholds are used to determine more precise training HRs for base and threshold
workouts. Testing can be performed on a treadmill,
or bike (using our Computrainer), or a rowing ergometer.
Testing is conducted in Wayne, at 200 W. Lancaster Ave., in
the Graduate Sports Medicine Building (usually Mon. & Wed.), or in center city
Philadelphia at our new location at Pennsylvania Hospital, 9th and Pine St.
(usually on Tues., Thurs., & Fri.).
A threshold test and skinfold body fat test costs $155. A coach or organizer who brings in at least 4 other
athletes is tested at no charge. Body fat
determination by underwater weighing (in Wayne) is $100 by itself, or $50 as part of a
threshold test profile. Additionally consultation
with one of our sports medicine consultants can be arranged depending upon individual
needs.
